Definition: Personalized Therapeutic Nutrition is an individually tailored nutritional intervention designed to manage or reverse patient specific metabolic dysfunctions, medical conditions or their associated symptoms.

  • Supports people to take a ‘food first’ approach to preventing and treating chronic disease

  • Includes a wide variety of dietary approaches that restrict carbohydrate intake

  • Considers a person’s needs, preferences, motivation and degree of insulin resistance 

  • Focuses on patient safety by preparing health practitioners to recognize and manage risks associated with restriction carbohydrate and potential overmedication

  • ​Provides an alternative to pharmaceutical management of metabolically based chronic diseases

  • Should be offered as a first line of treatment to any interested patient
